What is the tuck rule, what year was it eliminated, and why?
The tuck rule. It’s not about your J Crew tee. It’s when the quarterback tucks the ball into his chest—instead of throwing it forward—then drops the ball, making it an incomplete pass. They removed the tuck rule in 2013 because referee calls were debatable and cost some teams the Superbowl. Now, if the Quarterback loses control of the ball, after choosing not to throw it, it’s a fumble (instead of anincomplete pass), which means the defense has an opportunityto take possession of the football away from the offense!
